Madelynn Green- Madelynn Mae Green, born in Milwaukee, is an artist and MA Fine Art candidate at Central Saint Martins in London (2017-2019). Green combines abstract and figurative painting styles, pulling deeply personal images out of obscurity and reinterpreting African-American history through the material language of painting. Green’s paintings explore themes of memory, family and domesticity, altering color, scale and composition to create new versions of reality. Green’s “Cities” series is influenced by her undergraduate degree in Political Science and her time dedicated to studying cities and urban planning. Oranienstrasse and Skalitzer Strasse are based on a trip to Berlin and explore the relationship between people and place. In each painting you can see elements of the built environment (apartment buildings and train station, for example) along with ephemeral figures that add a layer of ambiguity to the narratives.
Daniel Klewer- Daniel was born and raised in Milwaukee and majored in art at UWGB. He also earned a Master of Arts in visual studies degree from Cardinal Stritch University. He is now based in Green Bay, Wisconsin and his work is inspired by the compositions and colors in the nature around him. Klewer’s “Linear Tactility” series consist of a consistent linearly divided composition. Color relationships, texture, and a brushless paint application dominate the paintings’ surface. The paintings unique, sculpturally-textured paint feels as if it is reaching off the canvas towards the viewer. The vibrant colors draw you into the paintings’ surface, while the sharp cactus-like texture pushes back. The “Botanical Abstractions” series is characterized by a lush paint surface. His works follow strict, self-imposed rules. As the surface on the painting is repeatedly scraped over, the original pictorial compositions are distorted, blurred, and given new life.
Nicole Naudi- Nicole was born in Evanston IL. Nicole Naudi is a multimedia artist and writer in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Her work prioritizes community engagement through paint, poetry and illustrative storytelling. As an emerging artist, Nicole explores relationships forged between creativity and social consciousness. Nicole is currently a student at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, studying Community Art with a certificate in Cultures & Communities. She also studied at the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Designs in New Studio Practice and Writing, and is the co-founder of the Pink Salt Art Collective.
Rosy Petri- Born in Milwaukee, Rosy is actively engaged in the creative community. "I am a mother, artist, and multimedia storyteller from Milwaukee, WI and am committed to creating work that honors and validates the experiences of individuals looking at life through the lens of outsider. As a woman of color making art, creating work is one of the few areas in life where I freely name, embrace, and honor my own identity. I endure daily for the right to birth my own personal mythology as daughter/sister/mother/woman/servant/priestess/pharaoh/goddess. Because society has placed such stock on what is valued as ‘normal’ I am challenged by balancing complimentary and opposing facets of my personality. Walking a blurred line between sacred and profane, beauty and utilitarianism, warrior and lover, humility and pride—I’ve come to know it as balancing my Malcolm out with a little bit of Martin..."
