'8 A.M., Faskell Road' is an original landscape in oil signed by the Midwestern artist Kevin Knopp. In the painting, Knopp presents a pastoral landscape for the 21st century: Underneath a light Rothko sky of blue and yellow, a set of gray farm buildings a century-old stand dark and heavy. In the distance beyond, new telephone wires reach from pole to pole in a rhythm across the horizon. Thus the view becomes an allegory of mankind, nature and time, showing how modernity touches everything in its course, even the seemingly untouchable rural parts of the world.
