Lowell Merritt Lee
Lowell Merritt Lee was a Wisconsin artist of note. He was born in either 1905 or 1906. I have not been able to determine his death date, but I believe it was around 1960. Lee was born in Michigan and studied in Ohio. He arrived in Milwaukee in 1934 or 1935. He was instrumental in the 1935 formation of a group known as Milwaukee Printmakers, and he served as the first president. One of the projects of the Milwaukee Printmakers was the production of a calendar that featured their work. It was produced featuring their prints (mostly woodcuts) in 1936, 1937, and 1938. Later, it was produced in a different manner, and featured mostly photographs of paintings. Lee's work was featured in the calendars, along with many other artists. There were 52 images in each calendar, plus the cover.
