‘Early American Pop’ is a giclée print on watercolor paper after the 1966 original, signed by the artist in the lower right. Reminiscent of patterns from stamp art and quilt art, ‘Early American Pop’ displays a grid of square-shaped designs including floral patterns, symbols, and human figures. In the center of the print, these designs have been obscured by a gray rectangle with a floral ornament at its base. Barnett has explained that his interest in collecting first began as a child after purchasing a collection of stamps; here, he has seemingly replicated the diminutive details of a stamp in order to create a new collection, one that consists entirely of his own creations.
