'Fish Eagle' is an original springstone sculpture signed by the Zimbabwean artist Terence Paradzai Nehumba. Terence was trained in the Shona stone carving tradition and this is an excellent early example of his work, combining abstract and animal forms. The sculpture takes the form of a massive bird, seeming to crash through the rough stone below as though splashing into water. Indeed, at the feet of the bird, a fish wriggles in surprise as it is captured by the eagle. Terence plays with the texture of the springstone, bringing the body of the bird to a high and deep polish while leaving its eyes and the stone perch rough-hewn.
