Business cards like this fall into the category of what art historians today generally refer to as "ephemera." Ones like this were produced for companies in the late 19th century, pre-printed in large numbers with blank spaces where those companies could pay to have their information printed. Often, the images on these cards had little to do with the companies themselves, such as in this example where the flower arrangement and ice skating vista have the name the information of a manufacturer of harnesses. As these cards were not considered valuable when they were printed, despite the large numbers produced, very few examples survive. This card is in good condition, with no fading, some minor creases, and minor abrasions to the paper.
