The present work is an excellent example of the paintings of Milwaukee artist Reginald K. Gee. Each of the four canvases that make up the work bear one of Gee's humorous, poetic titles: "Mystic," "Awkward," "Prepare the Wax," and "Free Will." These words cause the viewer to examine differently the individual self-portraits, each of which are executed in expressive black against differently colored backgrounds. Each canvas is individually signed and dated. This polyptych is framed to conservation standards using archival materials including 100 percent rag matting. It is housed in a modern profile whitewash finish wood moulding.
