The present artwork is an original color aquatint by the Sag Harbor-based artist Nicolette Jelen, and is a particularly rare Hors Commerce proof. It presents a view of what is probably a New York landscape, looking out across a field to a grove of trees and mountains beyond. Jelen has paid special attention to the effects of light in the landscape, not unlike the Impressionists of the nineteenth century. The softness of the aquatint technique and the layering of colors of ink lend a painterly quality to the image, allowing the field and forest to glisten in a concert of color.
