Brian Nehumba - African (Shona)
Brian Nehumba was born on March 4, 1976 in Harare, the first born in a family of eight. He grew up in Chitungwiza. He did his primary education at Seke Five High School where he obtained six 'O' level passes. After school and during his holidays, Brian would visit artists like Nesbert Masunda, Chitua Jemlia, Deford Kanyemba and Kaitano Ngamu and entertain them with stories while he worked. With the help of Kaitano, he sharpened his sculpting skills. After completing his secondary education, he decided to take art seriously and in 1996 he opened his own workshop. Currently he works with his young brother Terence Nehumba. He mostly uses springstone and opal, but is looking into moving into a wider range of material including metal and wood.
