Sydney Majemgwa - African (Shona)

Sydney Majemgwa was born in 1972 in Bulawayo. He was inspired by the late Biggie Kapeta. He started by assisting him as a junior sculptor. His art portrays Shona values and global issues. In 1990 he worked for Chapungu Sculpture Park after spending much time with the Tengenenge Sculpture Community in Guruve. Here he worked alongside the late Bernard Matemera who polished him to be what he is today. He works on opal and springstone. He loves creating torsos, animals and portraits. He made a very big torso at Tengenenge Entrance and a big owl at Chapungu. He also did portraits of Mbuya Nehanda of Zimbabwean history. He exhibited in the Netherlands and Germany. Most of his works are in the UK, Germany and the USA.
