Degrees of Focus

Degrees of Focus:Photography and Photographic Mixed Media. While photography was considered to be a mechanical, commercial, and noncreative pursuit as late as the twentieth century, we now understand it and mixed media to be the result of many complex aesthetic and technical choices. This exhibition will explore some of the ways in which photographic and mixed media art have altered the once singular focus of photography: they reflect, communicate, and shape cultural meaning; they manipulate images far beyond their original form; they can be performative; they engage time and memory; and they are ever more ambiguous, complicated, and changing.
